assignment#8: Careers as a journalist- Talk with an expert. go to the following website about journalism careers and answer the following questions:

What is the best thing about being a journalist?

How much does a journalist get paid?

What skills do I need to be a journalist?

Answers should be in complete sentences/ in paragraphs/ and saved on the Y-drive in the assignments folder.

assignment#7: Review writing:  Read the following restaurant review:  http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/restaurants/2009937416_cicero25.html

After careful reading, review the review. What good about it? (interesting, specific, etc.) What could be better? Write  a short review and save it on the Y drive in the assignments folder.

assignment#6:  Editorial writing: After going to this website — http://projects.edtech.sandi.net/montgomery/sandiegowatershed/how_to_write_an_editorial.htm – and reading about editorials for newspapers, read the following two editorials from online newspapers and answer the questions that follow.  Save your responses in the Assignments folder on the Y drive. (Be sure to save as your name in the correct folder.)

Answer these questions in complete sentences, in paragraph form. 

• What makes EACH of these an editorial? Explain and cite a passage from each article that shows a viewpoint.
• How are the two articles different? Which one do you like better and why?

assignment#5: Find examples of the following journalism terms in online newspapers. In a Word document, write the terms, the definition (you have all newspaper vocabulary defined on a sheet in your folder or you can find an on-line definition) and the example you found copied and pasted into your document. Save your file on the Y-drive (in the Stinger folder under 2010-1011)  in the Fall Assignments 2010 folder.

assignment#4:  Headlines– Go to real on-line newspapers like the ajc.com.  Look at the headlines for news, sports, and feature stories.  Write down 3 headlines you find for each category.  Is there any difference?  Comment in a paragraph or two.  Turn this assignment in to Mrs. Dial. 

Assignment #3: Write a list of ideas (good/specific/interesting) for the next issue (early December) of the newspaper. Put this list directly into the comment section of this page so it shows up for everyone to see.
